Carbon Reduction Commitment
(CRC) Overview
The Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC) is a mandatory emission reporting and reduction scheme that commenced in April 2010. It is designed to promote a focus on energy efficiency and drive a reduction in overall energy consumption.
CRC is a government-led scheme that embraces organisations that
annually
consume greater than the entry threshold of 6,000Mwh of energy. This
equates to approximately £500K in 
annual energy
spend.
Organisations included in the CRC scheme are required to track,
their annual energy consumption and use this data to calculate and
report their carbon emissions footprint.
The CRC legislation creates a number of risks and opportunities for
those organisations that are included, namely:
✓ Compliance Risk - A failure to register, failure to report and inaccurate reporting all carry significant financial penalties.
